On Paleo Treats

Recently, my  girls and I had a conversation relating to my corn allergy. It went something like this:

Mini-Foodie M asked, "Mama, do you crave corn?"

"No, Honey, I don't. I actually do not crave it because I know how it makes me feel, but I do crave healthier versions of foods I used to be able to eat. Take cinnamon rolls. I often crave a squishy, fluffy cinnamon roll, not a gluten-y one, so that's why I make the safe for us ones."

Mini-Foodie A, who is also corn allergic, chimed in with, "Me too."

None of my Mini-Foodies crave conventional treats or candies probably because (A) it has been a long while since they have had any or, as is the case for Mini-Foodies Z and S, they have not had them and (B) they enjoy the treats and confections I make. Instead my gals ask that I make or that we make healthier, paleo style ones. So this mama takes the requests and her own cravings and makes memories both in the kitchen as we work as a team creating the treats as we enjoy them gathered around the table.

A key to healthy digestion begins with food prepping food which triggers enzymes in the mouth to prepare themselves to do their work breaking down the foods we eat. Taking the time with family to prepare treats is an added bonus for a healthy G.I. tract as well as an opportunity for kids to help in the kitchen and learn what it takes to make a treat.
