Review of Homefree cookies

I have been lucky enough to have attended and been a blogger for the Nourished Festival since I was pregnant with Soul Baby. My favorite part of the festival other than meeting new gluten-free bloggers is that we get to sample gluten-free and allergy-friendly foods from the vendors. BUT this year was different due to Covid, but rather than do away with the festival, the organizers went with the flow and created a virtual festival you can still visit for the next 6 months here. While you may not get to taste the foods, you can check out the classes as well as the vendor & blogger booths. There is so much to discover.

One of the allergy-friendly companies to have a booth is Homefree. Here are some company highlights you can find on the webpage: they have a dedicated baking facility with allergy safety in mind. There are no peanuts, tree-nuts, eggs, wheat, dairy, soy (except lecithin), fish, shell fish, or sesame in their facility at any time and their kitchen is dedicated gluten-free. To learn about extra steps they take, check out their page and as always, read the labels and their FAQ page for more details and about corn.

We were able to review three flavors Lemon Burst (made without corn) and the Chocolate Mint & Ginger Snap (both made without corn, but the xanthan gum is grown on corn, so your mileage may vary). All three flavors are crispy, bite-sized cookies that are full of flavor.

Flavors

Lemon Burst. A pop of lemon flavor true to its name. Tastes like a lemon rather than ‘lemon-flavor.’ A pleasant flavor and surprise. These taste light, not a heavy cookie. These would make an excellent sandwich cookie with a crème filling.

Mini-Foodie A: “Tastes like a lemon juice right in the cookie. Tastes like fresh lemon.“

Mini-Foodie M: “Excellent, crisp flavor.”

Mini-Foodies Z & S: “Yummy. More please.” Z added: “Like an explosion of lemon.”

Chocolate Mint. Strong mint flavor with a rich, dark chocolate where the mint lingers.

Mini-Foodie A: “Strong mint, nice riche chocolate. Not too sweet, not too rich, it’s just right.“

Mini-Foodie M: “The mint and chocolate compliment each other well.”

Mini-Foodie Z: “It’s an awesome chocolatey minty flavor.”

Mini-Foodie S: “Yummy, chocolatey ‘ferment’*.” *This is her mispronunciation of peppermint.

Ginger Snap. Probably the best ginger snap I have had. All the flavors are well balanced with ginger standing out. Would be the perfect holiday and fall cookie, in fact, I am imagining a delicious pie crust made with these cookies.

Mini-Foodie A: “Great ginger snap. best one I’ve had. The spices are just right.“

Mini-Foodie M: “Delicious balance of flavors.”

Mini-Foodies Z & S: “Yummy. More please.”
